Autotrading progress

Hi All,

Not a bad weekend quiet on the members main bets front but the free bets returned a 8/1 winner and a 10/1 second so a few points there.

I have attached the progress chart of the trading bot and you can see how it has faired, you will probably think as i did that it started welll and is now going to the dogs. That may be teh case but whilst it is i profit i have to take that at face value and give it a bit longer to prove its worth or lack of.

I am hoping that it ressurges and reaches a new high point this week , if it doesnt i will have to review the situation.

26th September

Hi All,
thought i'd do an update on how things are fairing, betting wise we are up 10 points in september which is agood result that i hope can be maintained.

As far as my trading application is going things went great for the first few days and have stagnated since. This is ok as long as the positive correlation is resumed shortly. I will be doing a full update tonight with charts included so you can see how the progress has gone.
I also have some videos now which i'll put up for you to have alook at

23rd September

Hi All,
Didn't have time to post last night as i am doing some work on creating a members forum for the site upon request from a few of you.

The trading application did it's job again yesterday returning a solid figure for the sixth consecutive day. I have slightly increased the stakes again for today and i will be running each stake level for 2 days.

Two runners today both lost which was dissapointing but that's the nature of the beast unfortunately will update tonight.

22nd September

Hi All,

Sorry not posted for a few days have been a bit busy. Its been great this month as i have had agood few members join me and compliment me on the site and tips. We have had some nice priced winners and i hope you will stick with me when things are not so easy.

I have finally worked through one process to provide us with higher turnover on the national hunt. I will be sending all members the requesite info tomorrow and you will need to copy the custom spreadsheet for another bank these bets will be "nh2" and i will code them on each dispatch.

As the first part of the montly members articles i have a document which goes deep in to the use of set variables and examplifies how with a bit of patience you can grow a very large fund from system betting and sensible staking.

The newest version of the bot is running very strongly and i am gradually increasing the stakes in the betfair test account. Today it traded automatically on 13 races winning on 10 and producing£7.69 profit on a £50 bank ,as i believe a £500 bank is useable then i feel there is great scope for this , we will see how it fairs over the next few months.

I have uploaded todays betfair statement to show the progress as i haven't upoaded one for quite some time and it adds to the interest.

I video my trading occasionally and if any of you would like to see the bot in action then drop me aline or post a comment and i will gladly get some footage up

19th September

A good day again on the lay bot with solid returns and not one losing race which is nice.

On the members bet we came very close going odds on in running but we got done late. These things are sent to try us and we'll take it on the chin and move forward.

I now have finished the first version of the combined bot which encompasses both win and lay criteria and i will be getting this up and running after the weekend.

18th september

Evening all,
Getting dark early aint it !!!!!!

Unlucky today our main bet was completely luckless in running but i am hoping it will be out in the next few days and should be a good bet to win.

The lay bot went really well again today and i am putting the master script together to run both the lay and back trades. I want 15% growth dailr from the 2 combined long term meaning a 500 pound bank can give us £75 a day on a 5 day week returning £385. If we can then get this automated and away from using semi automated betangel integration it will be a potent tool.
Catch you tomorrow

17th september

Hi All,
Today was another quiet day with one bet that lost but we can't win them all. As long as we stick to the selections rigidly and get the best prices we should do satisfactorily long term.

Another good day for the lay bot with solid profits, i feel we are getting to a stage where i will soon have a requesite turnover from the trading methods and i will need to find a way of getting them in to a workable program so any developers out there get in touch !!!!!
I have had quite afew mails over the last few days about my service and that bodes well.
I will catch you all tomorrow.

GREAT DAY !!!!

Good day today with one bet and one winner glad some of you managed the 14/1 too sp was 9/1 so still a good return, those of you using betfair sp will have managed nearer 10/1 so a nice boost.

Quiet on the trading front today with a small profit on the lay bot which is encouraging needs refining but its hard to get the processes right quickly when you are testing stuff in one account and trying to trade in another account and balancing data useage charges etc etc. The idea as some of you are aware is to refine each trading process and then amalgamate them in to a fully functional bot which can be run automatedly. We'll see how we go.

15th september

Hi all,
Been a few days since i posted but i have had a problem with Bet angel crashing and the problem was down to the net framework but i have downloaded a paych and it seems to have fixed it.

Today i put in to action abot i have had in the workshop for some time, it works on laying with longish term positions and aims to get extra ticks through the crossover. I ran the bot today and managed afew ticks over 3 races ( i only traded 3 races as i had to change the criteria halfway through the day to make it less specific) and i hope it will go the way i want it to over the next few days .

Thoughts Going Forward

Morning All,

Hope you are well. I was burning the midnight oil last night and i have decided on how best i may go forward with the trading strategy. Although the fundamentals in principal for a succesful strategy are unchanged the execution has been changed somewhat for a more rounded experience.

The key to profitable trading in the main is cutting bad trades quick and running the good ones out as far as you can. There is nothing wrong with this mantra but you will find that you experience periods where you will not be going anywhere. If we look at the results that we have achieved in the last week we can see that although 21% growth has been achieved we have quite a " wild looking" trend line.

I will be changing the procedure somewhat from today and we will se how we fair i will be starting a new spreadsheet for results but will be adding the progress on to the previous sheet so that we can see how the famous graph progresses.

Although i will have a fair idea of which horses i will be trading i am shortening the stop loss and therefore i want to try and catch " break out" type moves which means i want to be in to the market at quite an exact time.

With this in mind i thought i may show you a sneak peak of my modus operandi.

I use Microsoft excel integration in to bet angel which means i can tell bet angel when to trade the market by using formulas and statements.

so this is the basic interface

I have added the VBA buttons which can quickly clear status cells and also block all actions in a split second .
So basically you get the bet angel screen in to excel the real power comes from the programming angle.
You can create what is known as atruth table with as many factors as possible on a seperate sheet of the workbook with as many factors as you want for example.
if the favourite is less than 2.00 back
if the weight of money is 15% back
Now that is avery simplified equation but it would be managed by making reference to the status of each of those 2 aforementioned cells so consider the translation. if "favourite" is cell f7 and weight of money is t7 then we can build our truth table thusly
=if(f7<2,1,)>
=if(t7<15%,1,)
we can then have the sun of those 2 equations in a final calculation cell for example
=if(f7+t7=2,1,)
This says that if the 2 criteria are met then we have a final cell populated with a "1"
this leads us to the final command which is fired which as an example from my sheet is
=IF(AF7=1,"BACK OFFSET:"&Criteria!$B$14&" FILL_KILL:TRUE KILL_DELAY:"&Criteria!$B$16&" STOP:"&Criteria!$B$18&"TRAILING_STOP:TRUE WITH_GREENING:TRUE","")
The continual reference to "criteria" is a sheet i have with changeable factors for stop loss and offset and whether i want other conditions such as a trail stop or greening.
My conditions are far more sophisticated than asimple 2 step operation and i have individually 25 conditions which must be met.
Going forward i will be looking for a 5 tick profit and taking a 3 tick stop, using the automation technique means i will be getting in to the market when there is a definitive move and that coupled with the fact i am using the long term trend should help the situation.
Obviously the worst case scenario berring accidents is a 3 tick loss and the best is a 5 tick profit take but with the trailing stop in place we may experience many results in between. I am hoping we can get a 75% strike rate and a steady growth. Previous experience with this type of thing leads to me believe that we will experience profitability but i must say that i have not tried this exact configuration.
I must gear this to scalability and tehrefore i will be trading on horses that suit what we are looking for and therefore favourites under 2.92 will be what i am looking at where there is plenty of liquidity and the market is at its smoothest.

Rather uninspiring today with a loss on the whole.

I did not trade everything that i could have as i was doing some work on some new additions to the members bets which i think will fit in nicely to the portfolio. That aside i was atad dissapointed as things have not gone fantastically on these trades.

I may be looking to make some adjustments in the process and will possibly post again later with some ideas. The graph so far then ..................

Doesn't look too bad we'll see how it goes though and i would perhaps be looking to getting a higher strike rate and perhaps cutting the potential loss amount down. That means dropping to a 3 tick stop and taking smaller profits but that would not be too bad if we can improve the strike rate.

10th September Update

Decided to do abit of work on the computer this evening and noticed Kempton was on. I managed a few ticks and subsequently that has altered the daily total and taken the bank to a new high. So in hindsight today has not been too bad.

I will be adding a section to the site where i analyze a race each evening and discuss any interesting contenders, this will be free to all so feel free to have a look.

Tough again today and the market is not portraying the charachteristics we want to see, the movements in the market are not definitive at the moment and i find this quite strange but understandable.

With the ground and thetime of the season we are not getting the "steamers" that we are use to here is the graph so far and this is 7 days, a weeks trading from last thursday to today and to be fair it does very little to excite.

Don't get me wrong its a profit and should not be sniffed at but it shows the way the markets are trending. You can see how the last few days have examplified a stagnant period. This is obviously caused by the winning trades being cancelled out by the losing ones and through watching the markets i have seen the charachteristics that are causing this. My strategy is to get on medium term movements, once i have decided upon the trade i use short term criteria for the entry point with predefined exit criteria i then manage the trade between these parameters of safety. I can generally get a move in my favour, bring my stop down and enjoy riding the trade out for 5-20 ticks at best and a small loss at worse however the markets of late have not helped me really.

What i am hoping to see is a ressurgence over the next week but we'll see 19% growth in the first week is not bad but it is not fantastic considering the skill involved in the process lets hope for better !!!!

On the betting front things have been quiet also but i will be adding some more selections which should help things along from a turnover perspective.

Horse Racing: GBP4.29 Total P&L: GBP4.29

Well not a bad day one main selection for betting purposes which obliged and after deductions i still walked away with 1.8/1 which i was pleased with.

Trading is hard work at the moment with the ropey conditions there seem to be very few definitive market moves and i believe this is reflecting in the daily results.

I would be looking for more like a £10-15 return from a £100 bank and it is annoying that this is not being realised. I was on target for a £14 return today as i was sat on a banked £8 from the day and was 5 ticks up on a particular selection in the last race i traded when the market swung back rapidly and took me out in a shot. at the time i was very cross but at least today was a profitable one and things take a positive if small step forward.

It will be interesting to compare the graphs i upload as the weeks go by and to see if the correlation continues.
at the moment we are making 3% bank growth per day which is less than i want but is acceptable long term.

Betfair have announced yet another charging procedure to strip more profits from us which is disgraceful in my opinion. Profitable players will now be giving away an extra 20% of their profits under this new scam i mean scheme.

Betfair have played on offering the customer agood service long enough to gain amonopoly and are now utterly exploiting their members. I know many pro traders and they are all very much disgusted with the actions and are looking to move straight away. I also know that certain developers are working to produce an exceptionally efficient interface for betdaq so betfair could be knocked out of their comfort zone very soon i certainly hope so.

8th september

Well another quiet day and not much activity with no bets and poor trading conditions.

I wanted to discuss the trading process a bit more today and discuss witha retrospective view the last 5 days, which have seen the mechanical trading strategy that i am currently using and teaching in its embryonic stages
Now the first point is the poor racing of late and the decimation of the fixtures we have 5 days trades but in truth we actually have based on past experience about 2 days worth of trading.

Previously using this method i like a target of 3% a day, that is in truth long term arather soft target but it is a good target to have in mind. On 5 days trading then based upon that i would expect £15 return on a 100 bank. Obviously if compounded this would alter the results (i talk about this more in my tutorial)

So after 5 days we have experienced only 16 trades and i would ordinarily have expected a lot more activity but i will examplify what has been achieved. You can see the results i have recorded and charted and you can also se my betfair test account. Now £12.15 is not a monumental return but as this week was so bereft of activity it would not be a prticularly grim result. We can also see that although there is a seemingly nasty dip towards the end of the graph i have added a trend line to show the general correlation.

We will be able to see how the progress continues as i will periodically upload the most current graphs as to show how the strategy is working out.

If we take the weeks results as a true representation (which would not really be fair) then with a small bank of £500 you would have grown to over 3k within 6 months you could then take an amount of £300 a week as pocket money which is a nice regular amount.

Hi all,
Been a bit poor for trading last few days and under the criteria i am using and showing in my tutorial i would want 5-10 trades a day and that is what i would expect long term.
Yesterday i had only 2 trades one winner one loser for a small loss.

Now that i am implemeting and testing what i believe hits the right note a s what is essentially a mechanical definitive strategy i feel that the variables are sound enough to produce solid results long term and now all i want to do is to get the video footage to go with the ebook and keep running the process to ascertain that the correlation is correct.

Well a wash out today in truth but at least another day of trading profits to be had.
I have had some emails about this trading project and i feel i should clarify a few things.

Firstly these trades are in a seperate account to all my bets and are all done witha small bank of £100 i have experienced some derision today of the size of the stakes but i feel many of you are missing the point.
I am examplifying how with proper management and technique you can grow a small bank and return decent daily % results.

Over time you will see these seemingly small returns develope in to a decent sized amount using the technique i use on a daily basis.
I am using a small bank to set the framework and replicate how a novice trader will tackle the markets. It is not wise to use £1000 per trade early days so i showing that you can start with small amounts and build up.
As i mentioned there were a couple of losing days when i was testing certain global settings for automation and after altering this criteria the last few 3 days have been better despite the lack of racing. Although the process i am currently using requires a bit of management it is solid and is easy to execute.

Hopefully we will have some bets tomorrow so all members check your mail boxes.

For a 1 meeting day i was over the moon with this a good resulst with a £100 bank.
I want to get some more footage down and a few more days trading before i finalise the trading tutorial which i have layed the foundation for with some notes. That some of my members already have, editing the footage is a pain as what i have done is just record all afternoon so 4 plus hours with loads of stagnant time in there. What i think i will do is simply just start and stop the programme with ten minute snaps of the respective pre race markets.

I got a mail saying why have i not included my account statement last few days. I am going to do it periodically probably every week so don't worry you will be able to see the trades.
I have also had emails asking for long term results and that is not aproblem i have 5 years worth with the resulting outcome of teh staking plans so just drop me a line should you require them.

Horse Racing: GBP9.45 Total P&L: GBP9.45

A good day today, one selection which won at 6/1 sp and a better day for the automated trading in test account.

The above figure was achieved with a £100 bank trading 6 races and winning on 5 of them.
Now as promised to my members i video'd the session with cam studio as part of the imminent trading tutorial i will be releasing. I have to do some work editing out some of the footage as it is very long . But i promise that all trades will be shown and i will include my account statement to show all the trades.

The area that must be achieved trading wise is an average of 10% bank growth per day this to me examplifies a healthy level for scalability and means avery useful amount of £350 net can be generated weekly with a £500 bank this is a business model in itself and is what i will be demonstrating imminently.
Thanks for your mails to me at the site and i may do as many of you have asked and create a forum where we can discuss the lessons i provide.

Day 3

Horse Racing: -GBP12.28 Total P&L: -GBP12.28

Very quiet bet wise at the moment with only one selection today, i know that some of you like me got the 9/1 at around mid morning it was nearer 4/1 at the off.
This is very encouraging if we can keep backing 4/1 shots at double those odds we will make great profits long term. The much used term of "value" is the key to long term profits and we are certainly getting value if we are 100% over sp.

Trading was poor today but i feel i know why, the standard variability in less liquid volatile markets is often knocking my stop out before the more general move has been realised.
I want to change a couple of variables before i put some videos up as my members will be getting a full tutorial soon and it must be conducive regular returns and long term profits before i look to fully automate the process.

A very dissapointing day today all round. No bets to be had and the bot was poor making a loss of £18 the reason my statement states a loss of just over £15 is i was playing witha bookmaking strategy which made around £3 this is a strategy i willl be discussing shortly.
The bot is still in profit which stands at around £5 after 5 days 1% a day is very good but i feel that i may need to change the calculations slightly to improve things.

1st september

Well not a fantastic day today, most of the selections were non runners and the final selection found nothing off the bridle. I was rubbing my hands as it went very low in running and looked the winner a furlong out. On the bright side we got a very good price with the 11/4 early doors and if we continue to on long term profitable selections we'll do very well.

As you know i am testing some automated trading strategies which i will be recording soon for my members and giving away some tips on trading criteria. I am using a small trading bank of £100 and after 4 days the profit is £24.31 which i am very happy with at this stage.

this is only one bot and there is potential to write many bots in to 1 sheet.

After afew more testing days on this particular strategy i will publish an in depth analysis for you to look at. The idea behind all this automation of profitable trading strategies is a stand alone programme with excel integration that i am hoping to have developed so the user can just turn on and log in and trade the markets automatically. I have at the moment 3 strategies that i can implement and the end product should be a bot with all the strategies built in to increase the trading model to a high turnover profitable process. Todays profit of £6.81 is not a lot but 5 bots achieveing this would be a good yearly return and with larger stakes it would be afantastic yearly return. I am finding saturdays very tricky but the markets are literally drenched with liquidity meaning large moves are hard to come by i will keep doing saturdays but i may dismiss them long term if the charachteristics examplified at present continue.

I will catch you all tomorrow
